Beats and Rhymes

A Good Idea

Description

Beats & Rhymes provides school-age kids the chance to experience making and recording music in a way they can relate to. Youth participating in the program learn technology skills in the area of music production and engineering, recording and releasing their own musical creations. Local schools and youth organizations partner with Beats & Rhymes to implement their own program and music groups. The program is designed to provide challenging, positive youth and career development opportunities for low income, culturally-diverse youth.

Goal / Mission

The mission of Beats & Rhymes is to provide schools and community centers with the knowledge and resources they need to implement their own successful program, and subsequent music group.

Impact

Beats & Rhymes teaches youth music-making skills through implementation in various Minneapolis after-school programs.

Results / Accomplishments

The program has produced and released 8 albums with the various groups it has developed. Participating youth learn recording techniques, studio etiquette, song arrangement and writing strategies, and other skills needed to develop a successful career in music production.
