Greenbelt Alliance

A Good Idea

Description

Greenbelt Alliance is a non-profit land conservation and urban planning organization founded in 1958 in the San Francisco Bay Area. It aims to protect the region's greenbelt, an area of undeveloped, wild land, by limiting urban sprawl and promoting smart growth and overall livability of cities and towns. Greenbelt Alliance works through public policy development, advocacy, education, research, and partnerships with diverse coalitions.

Goal / Mission

Greenbelt Alliance's mission is to improve the lives in the San Francisco Bay Area by protecting the region's greenbelt and improving the livability of its cities and towns.

Results / Accomplishments

Greenbelt Alliance has successfully secured 26 urban growth boundaries in the region and preserved open space all over the Bay Area. Some current advocacy campaigns include improving Mountain View for a sustainable, smart growth community, protecting Tassajara Valley in Contra Costa County, and revitalizing Oakland's Broadway-Valdez neighborhood to promote healthy living and green transportation options.
