SpeakOut

A Good Idea

Description

SpeakOut is a weekly open mic that invites community members to share their stories. Participants include addicts, people in recovery, people re-entering society from prison or jail, homeless people, GLIDE staff, and those who come to GLIDE for support services. The story-telling is a blend of poetry, art, performance, and music, and is followed by a free dinner (offered daily at GLIDE). Artistic expression is also shared with others in a gallery known as Creative Space, where stories, poems, images and video are exhibited.

Goal / Mission

SpeakOut allows individuals to share their personal stories, through song, poetry, and music, and enjoy a sense of camaraderie and love with their listeners.

Results / Accomplishments

SpeakOut provides a forum for voices to be heard once a week.
